tarrow

Tarrow lived a mostly remarkable life working as an architect, until one fateful night where she was stabbed to death by her lover, a powerful sorceress who collected magical artifacts. The dagger she was stabbed with used to belong to a dead god and contained his soul; shortly after she was buried in a shallow grave, Tarrow was pulled out and given a choice: she could stay dead forever, or be resurrected and get revenge, as long as she agreed to help him achieve a goal he couldn't undertake without a corporeal presence on the mortal plane.

She agreed and became a Revenant, donning a black mourning veil to cover her face and conceal the terrible truth of her new appearance: entirely white eyes with no pupils, veiny and deathly sick-looking skin, and half an exposed jawbone thanks to carrion birds eating away at her corpse before she was buried, as it lay in the cemetery while her killer dug her grave.

As an undead warlock, Tarrow finally had what she never had in life: power, and the ability to use it to avenge both herself and others she meets on her adventures with the party. Being a Revenant, her moral compass is skewed and only balances to extremes. If she feels that someone deserves to suffer for their actions, it is very difficult for her to change her mind about hurting them.

so let's go out on a limb, a resurrection hymn

dorian

Born to (and abandoned by) divine parents, Dorian was adopted by a goddess and raised quietly on the island of Carcosta, where he didn't mean to be trouble but ultimately was; his powers one day outgrew hers and he left for the mainland. There, he charmed the locals with his powers and abilities, and led a group of them to do his bidding. This continued for some time, until he eventually met his demise under suspicious circumstances.

As a child, he crossed paths with a local boy of similar age, George, though they never interacted much due to Dorian's reclusive upbringing. In adulthood, after the death of Dorian's adoptive mother, George tracked him down to the mainland, where he found out that the rumors of Dorian having become something more sinister than just a god were true: he was holding court as a bored vampire god-king and threatening priests who tried to gain his favor when George found him again. The two eventually fell in love and lived in the Barrenton Peaks mountains in a house Dorian built for them for a decade, which he would eventually look back on as the happiest of his life. An odd peace settled between them in those years. George pretended not to know when Dorian was killing, and offered his blood whenever he could convince his lover to take him instead of someone else. But loving a thing like Dorian is like sleeping with death itself. Mortality hangs around him like a stench you can't wash away.
